FIJI · SOUTH PACIFIC · OCEANIA

Fiji

Viti Levu, the Mamanucas and Yasawas — island travel shaped by reefs, culture and weather margins.

At a glance

May–October is drier; November–April is cyclone season. Allow 12–16 days for Viti Levu and one island group, including buffer time for ferries and domestic flights.

Viti Levu

Nadi is the arrival hub, while Suva offers markets, museums and urban life. The Coral Coast combines villages, beaches and rainforest. Drive on the left and avoid rushed night journeys.

Experience culture respectfully

iTaukei, Indo-Fijian and other communities shape Fiji’s languages, faiths and food. Join village visits through responsible guides, dress modestly and follow hosts during sevusevu and kava customs.

Islands & reefs

The Mamanucas are easy to reach, the Yasawas feel more remote, while Kadavu and Taveuni suit diving and nature. Choose reputable boat and dive operators and respect reef rules.

Food, budget & safety

Try kokoda, lovo, curries, roti, dalo and local markets. Resorts are expensive; guesthouses and market meals reduce costs. Budget separately for transfers, diving and fuel surcharges.

  • Follow weather alerts during cyclone season and keep flexible tickets.
  • Avoid isolated areas after dark, monitor cards for skimming and carry only daily cash.
  • Check currents and use licensed marine operators.
  • Take leptospirosis advice seriously after heavy rain.
  • Carry medical insurance including evacuation.
