EGYPT TRAVEL GUIDE
Egypt
Pyramids, life along the Nile and the colours of the Red Sea.
Egypt combines some of the world’s most significant monuments with energetic cities, tranquil Nile landscapes and outstanding diving. A strong first itinerary links Cairo/Giza, Luxor and Aswan with a few restorative days on the Red Sea.

A first-time itinerary
Days 1–4: Cairo & Giza
See the pyramids and Sphinx early, then check current opening arrangements for the Grand Egyptian Museum and other collections. Islamic Cairo, Khan el-Khalili and Zamalek reveal very different sides of the capital.
Days 5–8: Luxor
Karnak and Luxor Temple on the east bank; Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple and Medinet Habu on the west bank. Start early for tombs and temples.
Days 9–12: Aswan & Abu Simbel
Philae Temple, the Nubian Museum and a felucca trip. Visit Abu Simbel on a very early day trip or stay overnight.
Days 13–16: Red Sea
Marsa Alam for reefs and calm; Hurghada for more infrastructure. Choose responsible operators and never touch coral.
LUXOR
The world’s largest open-air museum
Several days prevent temple fatigue. On the west bank, hire a driver for a half or full day and agree stops, waiting time and price beforehand. Carry sun protection, water and small notes.
Planning: Not every tomb is covered by the standard ticket. Check which additional tombs are currently open.
ASWAN
A quieter Nile
Aswan feels calmer than Cairo or Luxor. A private felucca in late-afternoon light, Philae in the morning and the Nubian Museum create a balanced stay. For village visits, choose respectful operators and ask before photographing residents.

Food, restaurants & supermarkets
What to try
Koshari, ful, taameya, molokhia, grilled meats, mezze and fresh juices. Busy local restaurants with high turnover are usually a dependable choice.
Shopping
Carrefour, Spinneys, Metro Market and Seoudi offer fixed prices. Buy sealed bottled water and avoid drinking tap water.
Tipping
Baksheesh is part of daily life. Keep small notes available, but clarify services and prices first. Check restaurant bills for an included service charge.
Budget, clothing & safety
As a rough daily guide excluding international flights: budget €50–90, comfortable €110–190 and upscale €240+ per person. Recheck entry and tour prices shortly before travel.
Wear light, breathable clothing; cover shoulders and knees outside resorts and carry a scarf for religious sites. Avoid the midday heat and drink plenty of water.
Use official taxis or established ride services, agree the fare or app price first and keep valuables close. Solo women may encounter persistent attention; clear boundaries, reliable transfers and central accommodation help. Always check current regional travel advice.
